« Atekokolli » is a project that was launched in 1991 by a group of young people from the community of Amatlán de Quetzalcóatl. The project aims at maintaining and regaining their ancestral knowledge of traditional medicine, inherited from their ancestors, as well as preserving their culture and maintaining their identity.
Aware of the difficulties raised by the influence of other cultures and the growing mistrust toward the traditional methods of medicine, these young people decided to establish a clinic in order to apply their methods and techniques and contribute to public health.
The funding of international nongovernmental organizations allowed them to buy the land where they built then the Clinic of Traditional Medicine of Amatlán de Quetzalcóatl.
